Reflections on Light in Contemporary Artistic Practice: Convergence of Art, Science and Technology
Abstract
This article analyzes the convergence between art, science, and technology, focusing on light art as a field of study. It examines how light, since the movements of the 20th century, has evolved from being considered a simple resource to becoming a medium of expression capable of generating immersive and sensory experiences. In this regard, the work of artists such as Neri Oxman, James Turrell, and Daniel Canogar, among others, is explored as key references.
The article also addresses transdisciplinarity and co-creation within the art-science relationship, a typology of works that integrate scientific concepts for their dissemination through art. This analysis delves into the impact of the post-digital era and tools such as artificial intelligence, which are redefining the concepts of authorship and the role of the viewer, turning the latter into an active participant in the artwork.
Finally, a practical approach is proposed through three projects that embrace all these issues: “Raíces, Relaciones entre lo Computacional y lo Humano,” “SEA Reflection and Connection,” and “Renovación Cíclica”. These projects exemplify the potential of art for scientific dissemination and education, demonstrating how complex concepts can be made accessible in an immersive and experiential way.
