Let’s write, let’s play with words. Notes for a writing workshop on artistic creation and artistic research

Abstract

Although we tend to defend our research primarily through written texts, writing still seems to be an undervalued practice in fine arts schools. Most academic programs still fail to include it in their curricula, thus overlooking its potential as a tool for artistic creation. Aware of this problem, in September 2023 we launched the workshop “Ponerse a escribir sin dar puntada con hilo: taller de escritura desde la investigación y la práctica artística”, which was held at the Faculty of Fine Arts (UCM). This workshop was conceived as a laboratory in which, through a series of exercises, participants worked with shared prompts that encouraged collaborative writing. In the following pages, we present the instructions along with some of the outcomes from our first session. The aim is to make this article serve as a score for future artistic contexts.
