How to imagine Trilce. Intermediate expressions from Cesar Vallejo's book of poems.
Abstract
Trilce imaginado is a creative project based on the verses of the poetry collection Trilce by César Vallejo (Santiago de Chuco, 16 March 1892 -Paris, 15 April 1938), which is based on the proposal selected by the Spanish Ministry of Culture and Sport, within the framework of the 2022 Grants for Literary Creation in the Illustration category, presented under the name: X evocaciones de Trilce (Ten Evocations of Trilce), developed in subsequent years.
Along with the creation of images, students from different disciplines are involved in the project, using various poems to explore some linguistic keys, their staging, and musical compositions for piano and baritone. The result is a new creation, through which an understanding and knowledge of the poems is accessed that goes beyond their analysis.
Working from this collection of poems is a choice motivated by different factors, which converge in the emotional recognition of the situations or themes that make it up, as well as those derived from the nature of its writing. The way in which meaning is established in the very configuration of the verses, in the repetitions, the invented words, the spelling mistakes, or the sonority, are fundamental keys that have served as a stimulus to undertake this transmodality project.
In order to “imagine” Trilce and translate it into different languages, it has been necessary to undertake an extensive journey through open sensory and cognitive processes: from the direct apprehension of the verses in order to create the works, to the study of the author's historical and biographical context, the analysis of literary criticism and the approach to the interpretations of experts on the poet.
This project is therefore theoretical and practical in nature, based on research grounded in artistic experience.
